For several weeks now, the much-anticipated ‘Nopus’ has been the subject of much discussion among Eric Prydz fans. And here is finally the release date: October 16th!
This track has a very linear construction and its synths. Having spread quickly, Nopus is the contraction of ‘Not/Nope’ and ‘Opus’. Rather funny that Eric kept the name, although Swedish admitted hating it.
Finally! Mike di Scala and Dave Whelan, a.k.a. CamelPhat, announce the release date of their album ‘Dark Matter’, which will be officially on October 30th.
This announcement brings to an end the journey of the production of this album, which has taken two years to see the light. It is thus 21 tracks which await us, with very well-known (Cola, Breathe, or For A Feeling, taken again in Dark Matter Editions), but also new.
We will also notice a new collaboration with Elderbrook for Dance With My Ghost, a new call to Jem Cooke on Carry Me Away, and above all, a very successful collaboration with Noel Gallagher from Les Oasis on Not Over Yet. Other artists present on this album set the tone in terms of genres (Tech House, with Skream and DEL-30, plus Progressive House/Techno with Eli & Fur …).
And here is, to make us wait, a little taste with Will Easton, entitled ‘Witching Hour’ that we can finally listen to freely and at any time.
My friend John Goff, a lifelong analog and electronic musician, would help me with these re-edits and indulged me as I became more ambitious with my arrangements. John suggested that we build some original music together. We put some instrumental compositions together, and then serendipitously met Merritt Lear and her former bandmate Joe Cassidy. Merritt added incredible vocals and melody ideas, and Joe added guitar and production/arrangement. We completed two songs, decided to name our project NØISE, and to rush produce a 7 inch for release at my 50 Shades of Black art show. I worked up some art for a screen-printed cover, and we cut and glued 500 sleeves to complete the NØISE “Little Lions” 45 RPM 7 inch. Additionally, all 500 are signed and numbered but will still be priced at $10… with no added “Art Tax” in sight. You can listen to the music on the turntables provided in the Subliminal Projects gallery, or buy it for the art. To be clear though, this is not an art project with music included, it is a music project with art included. We’ll release some stuff digitally eventually, but it’s vinyl only for now. One of the most important for many years, the soundtrack of the FIFA game is back in 2021 with more electronics than the previous edition. Always reinforced by the presence of the “Volta” mode, the soundtrack is this time composed of two parts, one of which is particularly electronic.
On the electronic music side, we find Alison Wonderland, QUIX, Bakermat, Daddy’s Groove, Disclosure, Flume, Love Regenerator, Oliver Heldens, Firebeatz, The Prodigy, Afrojack, Yves V or Icona Pop.
As for the main soundtrack, the electronic artists included in the playlist are The Blessed Madonna or Louis The Child.
Free parties have always existed and are the object of all fantasies because we brave the forbidden, defy the authorities and make fun of the power. Lack of safety and health rules, non-compliance of hearing rules, impact on the local environment, this image is as stereotypical as it is demonstrable. Then we can ask ourselves: What place can it occupy when all official festive establishments and festivals are suspended?
Looking back, we see that rave parties have always been despised by the various powers, and created in crisis contexts. Always denounced as a drug hub, with incomprehensible musical tastes, raves and free parties are experiencing this year, COVID obliges, a new revival of popularity and are again under fire of criticism.
The impact of the situation is causing many DJs to react, such as Joachim, who speaks very virulently, via his EPK releases and his participation in a signed forum on Libération on the decline of the electronic scene in France, where it is written “This is only possible with your collaboration [from the government] […] Without these artists, a whole section of the country’s cultural wealth collapses before our eyes. ».
This is how the actors of the night live it. Especially when, at the same time, other side activities benefit from the administrative reopening, such as salon-type events. This pushes many actors to raise their voices in the face of unilateral decisions on the part of the authorities, leaving them in an unbearable limbo and an anxiety one can imagine.
The survival of clubs and festivals in France will only be assured if they are reopened or if the sector is helped to cope with the ordeal it is undergoing. But the authorizations are delivered only for few exemptions. But it is a double-edged sword that the actors face, a real gamble on the health of their public and on their own survival, sometimes not knowing on which foot to dance.
And yet, these parties, far from any regulation, can provide examples of solidarity and understanding of the stakes on the part of the public, like the worst, with zero masks and zero physical distancing. It is therefore necessary to be doubly vigilant and sensitive to what the authorities are currently putting in place.
In any case, the resurgence of rave parties is underway, and seems inevitable in our current situation. This will remain the trend as long as the actors, artists, programmers, technicians and other party trades remain as despised and ignored by our institutions; doomed to disappear or to precariousness.
In the meantime: be careful and responsible.
