From April 1^st Soundcloud will pay its artists according to their listening time, the new Eden for artists! All of this in order to the distribution key that pays the artists, to be fairer, in other words.

Soundcloud will go from the “data centric” meaning getting the money and redistributing it to the most listened artist to “user centric” where artists are actually paid by the users directly.

Soundcloud will be the first one to launch this system although it is not entirely accepted by others, like record companies, artists, new talents, …

This change should be beneficial to new artists in the electro world since most of the artists present on the platform are already from the area.

When talking about music streaming platform we directly think about Spotify, Deezer or Apple Music. But if we have to be realistic those platforms are pretty “basic” and don’t leave much room to new ideas. This is how SoundCloud wants to be different, after almost dying last year.

SoundCloud wants to be the platform used by young creators. For that it created new features and tools such as, edit contents, video tutorials and so on. This approach seems to be working, since the company is now counting 175 million users worldwide.

“Support directly the artists” is one of the new features of SoundCloud, allowing customers to pay directly their favorite artists. Which will give new and young artists a new argument to be on SoundCloud.

Here is a new feature for Soundcloud, giving the opportunity to his clients to pay directly the artists. Once more the group has come with a special idea for innovation. It is not the first time that the company tries to survive by having to stand out mostly because their first competitor is Spotify, and it keeps growing.

At the moment, artists are being paid on a “pro-rata” basis, meaning that the more people listen to a track the more money the artist gets. We can say that the new feature, maybe coming out at the end of the first trimester, will mostly help new artists and despite the cancellation of tours and festival, this is a new source of income.
